Why did you open Fearless Athletics?
The short story: reflections on my personal life as I was in my early sobriety helped me
to realize that the shared challenge and camaraderie of group functional fitness has the
potential to transcend exercise and have a direct impact on one’s mental, emotional, and
spiritual fitness. My workouts were a tool to help me build self confidence and reduce fear and anxiety while developing an amazing support network. I needed to give that opportunity back
to others.
Who inspires you?
In the CrossFit/Functional Fitness space: Jerry Hill of CrossFit Old Town, Alexandria and Nicole
Carroll from CrossFit HQ. So, so, so many of our members past and present have been, and continue to be, an inspiration to me on the daily.
What are you excited about right now?
Our mixed-group programming! I’m having so much fun programming it and it’s really
helping to make sure that everyone gets balanced, challenging workouts with options to focus
on what they need on both a macro and micro level.
What is one goal you hope to achieve in the next 12 months?
I’m keeping my goals small for now, since the pandemic has upended so much in my life.
I’d say get back to five consecutive, unassisted pull ups (strict, of course!).
What does wellness mean to you?
A balanced physical, emotional, and spiritual state. Wellness is caring for yourself across
all three planes and achieving positive, meaningful results in all areas.
If you were stranded on a deserted island and could bring only one piece of fitness equipment with you, what would it be and why?
A moderate-weight kettlebell. I think the kettlebell is the most versatile and
under appreciated piece of equipment out there.
What is one thing people may not know about you or would never guess?
I’ve run 13 marathons and four Tough Mudders.
What are you currently listening to?
Here are a few songs I’m obsessed with right now:
Bad Child, Tones and I
Overwhelmed, Royal and the Serpent
The Man, The Killers
